1997 Suzuki RF 900

Owner: Enrico
Conte, Legnano, Italy

Comments: I bought my RF in March '94, it was one of the
very first RF imported in Italy. I had it for eight years and
rode about 80,000 km with it.

I think the RF900 is a wonderful bike. It is very easy to ride,
good both for fast driving and for a relaxing trip. It is comfortable
even for tall people, I'm 189 cm myself.

It's a strong bike, I didn't have any
problems with it during the eight years I owned the bike.

I sold it two years ago but I know that
even the present owner is satisfied with it.

I ride a Honda now, but my e-mail address
will forever be suzukiman!

I thought that the Finnish-Japanese Solifer-Suzuki
R (also called GSX-R50) was manufactured between 1987 and
1989 but Christer claims he has the original documents
for his bike that says it's a 1993 model. OK then... |

1993 Solifer-Suzuki R
(RB 50)

Owner: Christer
Räntfors, Enskede, Sweden

Comments: I found this frame north of Stockholm, no engine,
no brakes but with wheels, fuel tank, fork and swing. He also
had the topfaring and like a kid in a candystore I took it home
and started to look for a nice engine, ending up with buying
a fully complete Yamaha TZR 125 -90.

I started to tear it down, while the Suzuki frame was at a company
who would sand blaster and paint the frame, colour close to
original, grey.

The engine fitted quite easily but the refrigirator is not good
looking on such a small bike, all the hoses and electric cables
the easily fitted on the Yamaha now where all over my little
bike.

The biggest modification I did was building a disc brake on
the rear wheel. Perhaps I am the only one ever done that with
an original drum brake wheel?

The original front disc fitted nicely in rear!
I
have twin caliper brakes front and rear now, with a larger front
disc than original.

I have also modified the fuel tank, by replacing the original
fuel hole with a racing one.

I started and rode the bike for the first time in March 2004,
and it was a fantastic ride until a loose screw jammed the front
wheel and cut the fork leg open so that the fork oil leaked
out. It's been repaired now, with a company with skills in welding
aluminium.

There's still lots
of work to do, but I will test it throughly this summer, then
tear it down again at fall and really get the final touch in
details.

I love the Suzuki R and I just have to have another one! Buying
in Finland with help from my cousin who lives there.

1984 Suzuki TS 125 X

Owner: Robin Cobb,
Nottinghamshire, England

Comments: Bought it five
years ago for £100 as a non runner (faulty CDI unit) but
it came with the parts to fix it, unknown to the seller. The
CDI unit he had taken off with a broken wire worked fine and
the one he had bought was faulty so it was a very cheap bike
for me.

It has been used off-road only since I've had it. I think the
bike is very reliable and fast for what it is.

1986 Suzuki GAG (RB 50)

Owner: Martin
Tacchi, Cambridge, UK

Comments: Here's a pic of
my two boys on their GAG bikes. One is a UK model, bought new
although in 2001 (!) from a dealer who had kept it in a shed.
The other is a restored Japanese model.

The UK model was road legal and I regularly rode it to work
and at race meeting as a paddock bike (best was 12 laps of Brands
Hatch GP circuit at a World Superbike meeting).

The restored bike was sold to the Rizla Suzuki Superbike team,
but the other was stolen from my house. I still hope to find
it one day...

The bikes were standard apart from minor details such as carbon
wrap on the silencer for protection, crash mushrooms, bar end
weights and slight additions to the graphics to make them more
up-to-date (the swoosh on the fairings and modern GSX-R logos).

At first Tomi didn't want to publish any pictures
of his new RB50 before it was repainted. It's
too ugly now,” he said. It's not your fault.
Please send a Before picture,” I ask him and
he did. I will send more pictures of it after
renovation,” he promised. |

1988 Solifer-Suzuki R (RB 50)

Owner: Tomi Riihiaho,
Karjaa Finland

Comments: I have just bought
a R from a guy in Finland, the bike is Yellow/Black (ugly!).
My brother is going to repaint it, probably Pearl Red with Gold
flakes. It's a relly nice color. The seat will probably be Silver
coated. We'll see how it turnes out...

I believe the Solifer-Suzuki R was available in Blue-White only.
I have heard that there were 1,000 units of them in Finland
but I'm not sure.

I never care too much about the color of the moped when I'm
buying, my brother will repaint it anyway... They
are usually quite ugly when I buy
them.

I have another moped already on this site, a Solifer-Suzuki
S1, on page 40.
Here's more Suzuki
GAG (RB50) info.
See even Tomi's Solifer-Suzuki S1 on pages 40 and 62.
There's also newer pictures of Tomi's RB50, after the new paint
job, on page 64.

1984 Suzuki GSX 550 ES

Owner: Philip, Lund, Sweden

Comments : This
is my Suzuki GSX 550 ES -84. It's in fine original shape.

I like the bike because it was cheap to purchase and because it's
really wonderful to ride.

The reputation of the GSX engines being bullet-proof don't make
it like less...

The exhaust sound is hair-rising!
