“Yes it is a carbureted bike, and yes, it will run with all the newer fuel injected bikes. I have had it up to 170mph, after new tires were installed, and it was unbelievable! I could have went faster but I was moving so fast, I couldn't see if a cop was up ahead!” Paul writes. |

1998 Suzuki GSX-R 1100 W

Owner: Paul Schulte,
Louisville, KY, USA
Comments: “I have owned the bike for three months now. I bought it from a guy in Colorado, he had bought the bike with only 4k miles.
It currently has 7k miles.
The bike is almost all original except for the Vance & Hines exhaust, sounds great!
As an open road bike it rides as smooth as a cruiser, but has all the power you will ever want. I have ridden this bike 400 miles, nonstop, (4 hours) and had the best ride of my life.
This is bigger than most of the sport bikes today, but the comfort of the ride in unbeatable, and the big engine hides the fact that it weighs more than other bikes.
I am sure that this bike will forever remain in my collection of toys. If you ever considering buying Suzuki, be sure to look for one like this, you will be happy you did, thats if you can find one!
Everything about Suzukis are amazing. This is my second, the first was a 1991 GSX-R750. The power, styling, dependability to the comfort, Suzukis are the best out there, in my opinion.”

1982 Suzuki GSX 400 L

Owner: Janez Pahernik,
Ljubljana Slovenia
Comments: “I have become a proud owner of a '82 Suzuki GSX 400 L. As you can see from the attached photos, the Old Lady is charming in a funny way and she's in a reasonably good shape.
The engine runs very smooth, so I don't expect a lot of problems there. However, yesterday I took the Old Lady to a checkup. Better prevent than cure…
The rest needs some refreshing:
The first thing to do is to replace the chrome footpegs and handle grips (which are seriously ugly!) with some nice old fashioned rubber ones.
The seat is cracked and duct-taped, so I'll have it rebuilt.
Next thing I have to study is how to mount luggage/saddle bags in the least disturbing way — some beauty must be sacrificed in behalf of practicability…
Framework could need some paintjob and chrome/alluminum parts are already dull, but I'd guess I will leave this project for next winter.
For the past two weeks I have been looking all over the web for the original side panel emblems or at least a clear photo to have them made, with little success. As you can see there are some stupid stickers on the side panels where the emblems should be and I think somebody should be hanged for such a crime.
I had a Suzuki GSX1200 before. Great bike! Last year I sold it to a friend of mine and took a Kawasaki Versys instead. The seat is higher and therefore more comfortable for me (I am 192 cm) and she also offers more wind protection than a naked bike.
I took the GSX 400 L as a second bike only because she looks so irresistible.”

1985 Suzuki GS 1100 EF

Owner: Rey Anderson,
Calgary, Alberta Canada
Comments: “My brother bought a '82 GS1100E new and I loved it , but had to wait 18 years before I finally found this one.
I live in Calgary, Alberta Canada and there are very few of these left to choose from. Fortunately in August 2000 I found this bike in the classifieds and called. I wasn't expecting to see such a pristine example (after looking at some really beat up one's) but when I saw the seller pull up to my house I had the cash out before he even took off his helmet!
It had 28,000 km on it and it was in mint condition.
After the sale he informed me that he had a new 4 into 1 header and new jets to go with it. I put it on three years ago and think it adds about 10 HP. However I kept the stock pipes and jets so it can be converted back to stock.
I have been riding motorcycles for 46 years and this one is the most exciting and fun of all my previous rides! When it gets on the cams it's scary fast and the exhaust note just screams!
Now that I'm in my mid-fifty's I am finding that my reaction time can't keep up with the bike. I've decided to sell the bike to someone that would really pamper it like the previous owner and I have.
Over the years we have spared no expense on this bike (over $5,000) to keep it like new. The paint is PPG pearl twinkle red with five clear coats (another $2,000). There are now 38,000 fully documented kms.”

Comments: “Here are a few pics of my '81 GSX 1100. I've only had it for a few months. I bought it as non-runner.

I have replaced rotten carbs, fitted new filters, re-jetted the carbs... I've also fitted new dyno electrics from Straightline Racing. Runs great!”
