2015 Suzuki year code: L5
From the DNA of a supersport legend comes the pure sport roadster, the GSX-S1000. The model was launched in 2015, a year later in the USA.
It was built around the same four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC ,999 cc, inline-four engine that was found in the 2008 Suzuki GSX-R1000, although the GSX-S1000 has been tuned for street use. The newly honed engine delivers smooth throttle response and immediate, controlled acceleration, so you experience adrenaline rushing performance. Proving that it’s not selling just a rebadged GSX-R, Suzuki has built an all-new aluminum frame chassis for GSX-S1000, with an eye on making the machine more of a roadster than a streetfighter.
Also of note is the addition of a three-way selectable traction control system, something even the GSX-R1000 doesn’t have. Suzuki’s advanced traction control system lets the rider control the throttle with more confidence in diverse conditions, so it makes sports riding more enjoyable and less tiring. The system checks the front and rear wheel speeds, throttle position sensor, crank position sensor, and the gear position sensor 250 times a second. The rider can set the system to any of three modes or turn it off.
Suzuki offered a Antilock Braking System (ABS) versionof the motorcycle.
The ABS system helps the rider stay in control. It monitors wheel speeds 50 times per wheel rotation and matches stopping power to the available traction. The ABS control unit has a compact, lightweight design that helps make the bike nimble. The ABS version weigh 2 kg (4.4 lb.) more than the version without the ABS.
Suspension work is done by a KYB shock that has adjustable preload and rebound, as well as fully-adjustable 43mm inverted forks up front. They have fully adjustable damping, rebound, compression and spring preload. Braking is done by Brembo monoblock calipers, the same top-of-the-line radial-mount Brembo monobloc calipers as the GSX-R1000. The calipers each have four opposed 32mm pistons acting on a 310mm floating-mount disc for strong stopping power.
The GSX-S1000 is designed to look wild, rugged, and aggressive. A combination of black and body coloured parts emphasise the bike’s assertive, sporty attitude. It has LED position lights shaped to represent its fangs.
It has a comprehensive instrument cluster with a lightweight, brightness adjustable LCD readouts including: speedometer, tachometer, odometer, dual trip meters, gear position, coolant and ambient temperatures, riding range, average fuel consumption, instantaneous fuel consumption, traction control, and a clock. The display is flanked by LED indicators for the turn signals, high beam, malfunction, ABS, traction control, coolant temperature and oil pressure.
The GSX-S1000 was also offered in faired version called GSX-S1000F, putting more emphasis on sport touring category.

For 2016, Suzuki offered also a Yoshimura Special Edition GSX-S1000 with a Yoshi’ R11 exhaust plus Yoshimura accessories and new graphics. The Special Edition bikes (both GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F) were available in shops in March 2016.

That was not the only Special Edition offered in 2016. In August, two new special editions were offered, a GSX-S1000 Carbon Edition and GSX-S1000F Tour Edition (see picture above).
The Carbon Edition GSX-S models are available in both the firm's signature MotoGP blue and the contrasting red and black colour scheme. The blue variant benefits from colour-coded Brembo monobloc calipers, eye-catching fluorescent yellow graphics and wheel tape, and a carbon accessory kit comprising of rear hugger, crankcase cover, clutch cover, and alternator cover. The red and black model gets the same carbon treatment, but boasts red Brembo calipers, white graphics, and red wheel tape.
The Tour Edition of the GSX-S1000F gained a 15 litre tank bag and 12 litre tail pack, taller screen, heated grips, and a silver graphics kit. The Tour Edition GSX-S1000F could be had in both blue or red/black.

2017 Suzuki year code: L7
Suzuki updated the GSX-S1000 in 2017, inreasing the engine power to 150 bhp and torque to 79.6 ft⋅lbf at 9,500 rpm. It was fitted with a slipper clutch and has cosmetic changes such as black levers and foot pegs/controls. The GSX-S1000F variant gained the same changes and also a tinted screen.
The power increase has been achieved thanks to new crankcase ventilation holes, this takes the power output up from 145bhp to 150bhp, while the slipper clutch comes from the GSX-R1000.
The upgrades for 2017 also extend to the GSX-S1000’s sibling, the faired GSX-S1000F. The two bikes share the same chassis and engine but the GSX-S1000F has firmer suspension and a wind tunnel-tested fairing. Both models uses Brembo’s top spec Monobloc calipers with ABS and fully adjustable KYB suspension.
Suzuki has announced a new special edition GSX-S1000 and GSX-S750 for 2017, as it revives the Phantom name more than 10 years after the iconic GSX-R1000 Phantom was released. Both the GSX-S1000 and GSX-S750 Phantom models come with a stealthy black paint scheme with red detailing. The stealth theme continues with black KYB forks replacing the gold items found on the standard machines. Completing the look is an all-black exhaust, black levers, and black foot pegs and footrest hangers.

The GSX-S1000 is available in a new white paint scheme for 2018, with red and black graphics and red wheels, while the GSX-S750 - which was new for 2017 - can now be had in an eye-catching red and black livery, alongside the classic blue and black option and all-black Phantom.

2019 Suzuki year code: L9
| The GSX-S1000 came in three new colour options for 2019. An all-blue model nods subtly to Suzuki’s MotoGP GSX-RR, with yellow and white flashes. It’s flanked in the range by a white version and a matt black variant of the same scheme, both featuring sharp blue flashes.
Aping its larger sibling, the GSX-S750 naked gets the same treatment, with 2019 getting a MotoGP blue option plus the matt black and all-white versions.
The pair’s GSX-S1000F stablemate will also sport a MotoGP blue livery with the same yellow and white decals, plus a matt black livery with blue accents.

Not much has changed other than colors. Black exhaust on all models.
The 2020 GSX-S1000 comes in Pearl Glacier White, Metallic Triton Blue, or a special, new Metallic Oort Gray/Metallic Matte Black.
The 2020 GSX-S1000F comes coated in a new glossy black treatment, the color is called Glass Sparkle Black. Also available in Pearl Glacier White in some countries.

Updated model
2021 saw the first major update since the bike's launch. Customers in the Nothern America would have to wait for 2022 but the new GSX-S1000 was launched in Europe already in the spring of 2021. Although the styling is the most immediately noticeable change, with stacked LED headlights, there are also changes to the motor, electronics, and ergonomics. To satisfy Euro 5 standards, the 2021 Suzuki GSX-S1000 gets major new internal engine parts. The intake and exhaust camshafts are new, along with the throttle bodies, valve springs, airbox, exhaust, and catalytic converter. There's also a new clutch and exhaust on the GSX-S1000. It revs an extra 1000 rpm.
The end result is an increase from 110 kW (147.8hp) at 10,000 rpm to 112kW (149.8hp) at 11,000 – not a huge step. Peak torque is down from 108 Nm at 9500 rpm to 106 Nm at 9250 rpm, but the all-important torque curve is now smoother, with a noticeable increase in the mid-to-high rpm range.
There's also new electronics, new dash, up-and-down quickshifter as standard and conventional traction control with more refinement – not forgetting bold new looks.ne character and power curves, but still give full power. The modes have always been called A, B, and C but now someone in marketing has decided to turn them into words; Active, Basic and Comfort. Suzuki has in the past been criticised for having sharp or aggressive fuelling, but that has been mainly rectified on the new 2021 model.
The tapered handlebar is now 23 mm wider and 20 mm closer to the rider, thus creating more upright ergonomics. The now larger 19-litre fuel tank has also been reshaped to increase comfort and give a greater range.
This GSX-S isn't a huge leap forward in development. If the capacity had increased or tech like an IMU was added to facilitate lean-angle sensitive rider aids, the price would also need to increase considerably – which wasn't the aim for Suzuki. Delivering a reasonably priced, desirable and usable nakedbike was key – which is precisely what it has done.

Again, the 2025 Suzuki GSX-S1000 remained technically unchanged. The Glass Sparkle Black livery remained unchanged from the previous year, the Metallic Triton Blue version looked almost the same except for the wheels that were now Black instead of Blue, and the Metallic Matte Sword Silver version had now Blue side covers instead of Red. The wheel color's now Blue.
