Suzuki GT80L
1981—1985

I have tried to find some GT80L info to show on this page. I would be grateful of any contributions — sales brochures, magazine ads, magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible. If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these instructions.

Looking very much alike the 50 cc ZR50SL, Suzuki Motor Company released the custom-styled GT80L in 1981. The model was marketed with different model names. In its homeland Japan it was called Suzuki GN80 and in West Germany it was sold as Suzuki GT80L.

The bike was equipped with a 79 cm³ 2-stroke single cylinder power reed valve engine that combines an impressive maximum horsepower of 10 PS (the domestic Japanese version) with easy-to-handle flat torque characteristics. This engine features an aluminum cylinder and cylinder head for improved heat dissipation, enabling ideal performance for long runs and other tough riding conditions. User-friendliness is also enhanced by the adoption of the maintenance-free Pointless Electronic Ignition (PEI) system and a primary kickstarter. This model also features a large rectangular headlight, rear carrier, and star-shaped cast alloy wheels. The street bike RG80E (X3 in Europe) also debuted at the same time.

Comparing the ZR50SL and GT80L pictures it looks like the models are almost identical, except for the tail light, the handlebar, cylinder head and naturally the stickers that reveal the model name.

I will fill in the blanks as soon as I find more information of the model.
