Suzuki DS80

I have tried to tell the Suzuki DS 80 model history on this page, as I know it. The page is still under construction. I would be grateful of any contributions — sales brochures, magazine ads, magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send them to me. In 1978, Suzuki introduced the entry level junior enduro machine DS80. It had an 79cc air-cooled reed valve 2-stroke engine producing 6—8 bhp and weighed around 64 kg (141 lbs) without oil and gas. It had a 5-speed gearbox and manual clutch CCI lubrication and primary kick starter, like its big brothers. The model had laid down twin shocks at the rear but evolved eventually to mono-shock and aluminium swing arms. The Suzuki DS80 had long production run, the model was discontinued in the year 2000. Many a top flight Enduro star of today cut their teeth on these Suzuki two strokes. Although Suzuki advertised the model as a low cost durable play bike for youngsters, it was proper competition machine, just scaled down.

New for 1980 was RM-styling, longer rear travel suspension and dogleg levers. The fenders and the fuel tank were similar to the RM80. Color: Red

No changes from '81 to '82 for these minis other than colour on the DS line ('82 yellow, '81 red). The '81 and '82 DS80 had larger wheels than previous or prior DS80's - 16" front and 14" rear. The Canadian brochure has a typo - lists 80 rear wheel as a 12".
