Suzuki GSF1250 Bandit model history
2007—

I have tried to tell the Suzuki GSF 1250 Bandit model history on this page as I know it. I would be grateful of any contributions — sales brochures, magazine ads, magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send them to me. The Suzuki Bandit 1250, introduced as a 2007-year's model, has a water-cooled motor specially designed for the model. The previous 1,157 cc air/oil-cooled motor did not meet Euro 3 emissions regulations.

While the new 1,255 cc engine produces almost identical horse power and torque figures as the old air cooled engine, the big difference is in where in the RPM band peak torque is produced. This 1,255 cc engine produces its maximum torque 108Nm at a low 3,750 RPM. That power is sent to the driveline via a new for 2007 six speed constant mesh transmission.

2007 sees the iconic Bandit 1200 reborn with the introduction of the NEW 1250 and 1250S models. Liquid cooled, fuel injected, more power and updated styling sees the Bandit improved in all areas.

Combining heavyweight power with distinctive styling and the quality of an all-new, technologically-advanced liquid-cooled engine and an advanced digital fuel injection system to meet Euro 3 emission regulations.
.
The 2007 Bandit 1250 makes more torque from idle to redline, with better throttle response and more relaxed highway cruising for smoother running and lower emissions.
.
The all-new, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected DOHC engine features a bore and stroke of 79.0 x 64mm for a full 1255cm3 of torque-producing displacement, increased from 1157cm3. The engine is built specifically for the Bandit, featuring a symmetrical layout with a centralized cam chain, bucket tappets and four valves per cylinder.

The symmetrical layout allows the exhaust head pipes to be routed around the frame downtube on each side. Intake valves measure 31mm in diameter and exhaust valves measure 27mm in diameter, each set at a narrow, 16-degree angle in a compact, high-compression combustion chamber with a reshaped squish band. New 4.5mm in diameter valve stems reduce resistance to air flow in redesigned intake and exhaust ports.

Cast aluminum-alloy pistons produce a compression ratio of 10.5:1 and ride in aluminum-alloy cylinder bores plated with Suzuki's own race-proven nickel-phosphorous- silicon-carbide coating, known as SCEM (Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material). The long-wearing, tough SCEM coating allows tighter piston-to-cylinder clearance for better oil control and sealing (producing more power and reducing mechanical loss) and better cooling when compared to conventional cast-iron cylinder liners. A new chrome-nitride coating is applied to the upper compression and the oil control rings on each piston, using a physical vapor deposition (PVD) vacuum chamber system. The new ring coating is harder and smoother than conventional chrome plating, reducing friction and improving cylinder sealing.

The new engine is more compact. The transmission shafts are staggered vertically to make the engine shorter front to rear. The generator is relocated to the left end of the crankshaft, reducing mechanical losses, and is smaller and lighter yet produces higher electrical output. Tighter spacing between the two pairs of cylinders makes the cylinder head and the throttle bodies 20mm narrower, which means the Bandit can be thinner at the front of the seat and at the rider's knees--making it easier for the rider to touch the ground at a stop. And a secondary balancer shaft makes the engine smoother. The hydraulically controlled clutch now has coil springs, improving lever feel, and the new 6-speed transmission improves acceleration feel while reducing top-gear rpm at highway speeds.

The Bandit 1250 features state-of-the-art Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) digital closed-loop fuel injection, for better throttle response feel, smoother power delivery, improved mileage and reduced emissions.
.
Each 36mm throttle body contains two butterfly valves, a primary valve controlled by the rider using the throttle twist grip, and a secondary valve controlled by the engine management computer based on engine rpm, gear position and the position of the primary valve. The secondary valve opens and closes as needed to maintain ideal intake velocity, producing more linear throttle response, enhancing combustion efficiency and increasing improving low-rpm torque. Injector on-time, which determines the quantity of fuel reaching the cylinder, is calculated based on engine rpm, gear position, throttle position and readings from an oxygen sensor built into the exhaust system. The oxygen sensor monitors exhaust gas composition and allows the engine management computer to adjust fuel delivery for more complete combustion, reducing hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emissions. And automatic Idle Speed Control (ISC) regulates the amount of air fed into the throttle body idle circuits, improving cold starting, reducing cold-start emissions and stabilizing engine idle under varying conditions. Suzuki's proven PAIR (Pulsed-AIR) system injects fresh air from the airbox into the exhaust ports, igniting unburned hydrocarbons and reducing carbon monoxide emissions. A new, larger catalyzer is built into the high-volume exhaust pipe, and further reduces hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emissions. Combined, the effective engine management and emissions control systems make this the cleanest-running Bandit ever built, meeting tough Euro 3 and Tier 2 emissions standards.

The 2007 Bandit 1250's classic tube-frame chassis features larger diameter downtubes, increasing torsional rigidity by 10%. Rake and trail remain 25.3 degrees and 104mm.

Seat height can be adjusted up or down 20mm by removing, flipping over and re-installing clever mounting spacers between the seat and the frame rails.

The front forks have 43mm diameter stanchion tubes with damping designed to deliver smooth response over varying sections of pavement. Like the single rear shock, the front forks have spring preload adjustability, to accommodate riding solo or with a passenger.

Cast three-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels carry radial tyres, and a convenient centerstand is standard equipment.

The Bandit 1250 features a traditional round headlight with chrome rim, bullet-shaped instrument bodies, handlebar- mounted rearview mirrors and streamlined color-coordinated trim between headlight and the analog instruments.

The Bandit 1250S comes with a half-fairing, with a built-in line-beam headlight, a windscreen and fairing-mounted mirrors.

Both the Bandit 1250 and the Bandit 1250S feature fully floating 310mm in diameter dual front brake discs with 4-piston calipers, along with a 240mm in diameter rear disc and single-piston caliper. The new Bandit 1250S comes with ABS (Antilock Braking System) as standard, which monitors wheel speed and matches braking power to available traction.

The 2'08 1250 Bandit was offered in four different versions. The naked GSF1250 without ABS brakes, the naked GSF1250A with ABS, the GSX1250S with a fairing but without the ABS brakes and the GSF1250SA with a fairing and ABS brakes.

2008 Bandit 1250 SA colors: Pearl Nebular Black, Candy Sanoma Red, Deep Blue No. 2, Metallic Oort Gray.

In Great Britain, the Suzuki GB offered a special model, Bandit 1250 Grand Touring, in the beginning of the 2008. Based on the Bandit 1250SA, the new Grand Touring model features a large capacity luggage system, full-fairing and a Garmin Zumo satellite navigation system as standard, offering £1500 worth of extras over the standard ABS equipped model. The recommended retail price of £6,799 was £1000 more than the base 1250S

The Bandit 1250 GT model was offered in Pearl Nebular Black and Pearl Suzuki Deep Blue.
