| 1980 Suzuki SP 400 and DR 400 magazine article from USA (6 pages). Click to enlarge. ”More of everything; but is it enough?” ”Remember the first DR370? It had a funny sized four-stroke single cylinder engine bolted into a decent frame, but the general styling and suspension travel were comparable to 1968 enduro bikes. The same bike received a square headlight and different paint for '79 . . . yawn.” ”We're happy to report that the '80 DR has come out of the dark ages; the engine has grown to 400cc, the chassis has been updated to provide more suspension travle and the styling is modern. The '80 looks more serious with measurements andshapes and sizes that are correct.” The DR400 test was published in Cycle World magazine in June 1980. |

| 1980 Suzuki SP 400 and DR 400 magazine article from USA (7 pages). Click to enlarge. ”Suzuki's two 400s, the DR and the SP, are like brothers who have parted ways. One has gone on to fame and glory; the other has remained mired in anonymity. Of course that's stretching the analogy; the DR doesn't rank as a consummate log-jumping woods bike, and the SP does merit attention as a fine novice's machine. But the point is valid. The original, 1978 DR and SP had much in common, and both fulfilled their respective roles adequately not not sensationally.” In the SP400T test article, published in Cycle magazine in October 1980, the SP400 is compared to Suzuki's own DR400. |
