I have tried to tell the DF 200 E model history on this page as I know it. This page is still under construction. I would be grateful of any contributions — sales brochures, magazine ads, magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send them to me. The Suzuki DF200E ”Trojan” is a tough and durable bike. It is based on the DR200 which has been around since mid-eighties. The Trojan is specifically a farm bike, with extra protection of the lights, the levers and the engine. It's not fast and sporty, the goal with creating this bike was to make a sturdy and reliable agricultural bike, used in rough enviroment. It was first introduced in 1997 for the Japanese market. It had a reliable air-cooled 199 cc SOHC engine, mounted on a slim and sturdy diamond frame. Its major features include an oil cooler, head light housing, large engine protector, foot guard, large front and rear mud flaps, chain protector, front and rear carriers and other features that are sturdy and practical. In Japan, it was marketed as a road legal dual-sport machine for young people. While the farm bike version, available at least in Australian and New Zealand, had no mirrors or turn indicators and the passenger foot pegs were stripped from the model. It had a large halogen headlight for night work, aluminum bars hand protectors and side stands on both sides of the bike. The seat height was also different. The Japanese doemstic version had a slimmer seat giving the DF200E 795 mm (31.3 in) seat height while the Farm bike version had a thick seat and 815 mm (32.1 in) seat height. Both versions had a large 13 liter fuel tank, making long-distance riding possible. The 1998 Farm bike version of the DF200E has the same specifications as the 2017 DR200SE Trojan. On this page, I call the street bike version DF200E and the Farm bike version DF200E Trojan.

The Suzuki DF200 Trojan is based on the DF200 which has been around since mid-eighties. The Trojan is specifically a farm bike and is not road legal. Still, it had headlight and tail light for night work. It's a working man's bike. There's no foot pegs for a passenger. The Suzuki Trojan features a clutch lock that allows you to leave the bike in gear and jump off when mustering (gathering livestock), electric and kick starter and a low maintenance, long-life sealed chain. It also has side stands on both sides of the bike, generous luggage racks front and rear and bars that protect front and rear lightning. It also has alloy hand guards and backward folding gearshift and brake pedals, to help reduce damage on the way of obstructions. The bottom of the engine is protected by a guard bar and a steel plate. The extra long mud flaps and the chain guard protect against dirt. The DF200 Trojan is a tough and durable bike. It’s not a powerful engine and still carbureted rather than fuel injected, hence easily tuneable for more performance but not as enviroment friendly as modern engines. It has an efficient oil cooler. The fuel tank capacity is 13 liters. The Farm bike color options were Solid Special White No.2 (30H) and Solid Black (019). In Japan, the Suzuki DF200E was available in five colors: Flash Silver Metallic / Moon Gray (L3K), Alum Green No.2 / Marble Prime Green (J2J) and Marble Aztec Orange (Z94).

1999 Suzuki year code: X

In March 1999, two new color options were offered for the Japanese customers. No other changes were made to the DF200E. According to the official arts catalogue the model offered in 1999 was still called DF2000EW. The new colors were called Flash Silver Metallic / Black (J5F) and Clay Beige / Black (N3D).

Minor changes were made to the last incarnation of the Suzuki DF200E. Even the engine was somewhat updated to comply with exhaust gas regulations. The model was discontinued in 2002. In Japan, the Suzuki DF200E color optiuons were Flash Silver Metallic / Black (YAX) and Pearl Pluto Green / Black (CG4).
