1981 Suzuki GS 550 E

Owner: Jeff Stanley
Memphis, Tennessee, USA

Comments: ”I really like you're site. It's really great to see the various bikes and how they differ from the U.S.A. models.

I would like to submit My humble 1980 GS550ET.

It had 17,000 miles on it when I purchased it in October 2005.
The only major upgrades were the 1/4 fairing, "superbike" bars and the custom paint.

I commute almost every day to work on it. Not too heavy in town. Not so light that you get blown off the freeway either. It's a great all-around bike.”

Owner: Leonardo Omar, Rawson-Chubut, Patagonia, Argentina

Comments: ”My baby is a Suzuki GS550T of 1981. I bought it four years ago.

I think it's a good bike. At first I had some problems with the starter and the carburetor. But I solved the problems, and now it takes me everywhere.

It is excellent for the city, and on the road it flies perfectly. ”

Comments: ”I bought my RV125M in February '05 as as a very original (7,000 km) but rusted beach bike. After many hours in the work shop to remove and treat the rust she is again sparkling. This little RV starts even after a month with no choke and a tiny bi of throtle and just idels cold!

There is something about this bike that really puts a smile of your face. It is quite low geared and handles quite badly. This can be forgiven though due to the starts first kick every time reliability and the fact that it makes you feel 14-years old again!

I have young motocrossers pull me up just to ask what sort of bike it is.

The T500 (once was warrior!) with 19,000 original miles is a classic example of a bygone era. She is beautiful to ride with quite respectable road manners, small presence and an incredible howl when you open the throttle!

The torque engine makes it enjoyable around traffic and the all gearing melts away the km's on the highway. The only downside is vibration over 5,000 rpm, but at this stage you would be doing 90 mph (140 km/h) so it really is not going to a problem.

I had these great bikes back in the 70's and I always loved the engine howl and nimble handling. This bike has original paint, handle bars, hand grips and has a rare grab rail with carrier.

The T500 is still a great bike to ride, incredibly easy to service and it really turns heads! It accelerates from 40 to 80 mph in top gear with a flick of the wrist.

There's also a picture of my mate and I with my 1980 (actually plated Dec 1979) TS250ER. I love it because it just keeps ploding along. It has heaps of power (not by new bike standards) and is very reliable. I like the old trail bikes because they have practical things like rear foot pegs and tool kits!”

Comments: ”Congratulations on your site. It's fantastic!

I have restored a TS400. Attached is a couple of pics. My next project is a TM400 of the same vintage. Just got to have pair of 400's.”
