The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE is an all-new adventure bike, revealed at at Eicma motorcycle show in Milan, Italy, in November 2022. Suzuki says the bike was designed to ”allow riders to journey without limits”.

At the heart of the new V-Strom 800DE is Suzuki’s new slim and compact parallel twin long-stroke engine with four valves per cylinder. The 776cc, DOHC motor produces 84.3 hp peak power at 8 500 rpm, with 78 Nm of peak torque at 6 800 rpm. A Suzuki Cross Balancer, a new primary balancer design, is claimed to reduce unwanted vibrations.

The V-Strom 800 DE has wire spoked wheels, a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear, shod with Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tyres. It has fully-adjustable suspension with 220mm of travel, controlled by fully-adjustable hardware from Showa, and 220mm of ground clearance. It has a rigid steel frame and an aluminium swingarm, like the other members of the V-Strom family.

Like its big brother, the V-Strom 1050DE, it gets a traction control system with three on-road modes, plus the introduction of a G mode for use off-road. It allows more wheelspin, which is suppressed only enough to help prevent excessive slip. More experienced riders can also choose to disengage the traction control entirely. The V-Strom 800DE also has two ABS settings, providing greater or lesser intervention, plus there is the ability to disengage the rear ABS for improved confidence and control off-road.

Gear changes are slick and uninterrupted thanks to a bi-directional quickshifter, meaning riders don’t need to trouble the clutch lever and can keep the throttle open on upshifts, while there is no requirement to blip it on downshifts. 

Like all new Suzukis, there is the low rpm assist – which raises the idle speed when pulling away or at slow speeds to reduce the risk of stalling – and Suzuki Easy Start System, which requires just one push of the starter button to fire the engine into life.

All of the advanced rider aids are managed via a simple rocker switch on the left handlebar, and displayed – alongside speed, odometer, rev counter, and more – on a five-inch, full-colour TFT dash.

The styling of the V-Strom 800DE reminds of the 1050DE, inspired by the DR Big and some other off-road racers of the past. However, the beak is shorter, sharper, and sits higher and new vertically stacked hexagonal LED headlights gives the bike a modern look.

A traditional yellow with dark blue accents and gold rims pays homage the most to Suzuki’s off-road pedigree, while the V-Strom 800DE will also be available in a matt mechanical grey with moulded yellow accents and black rims, and a glass sparkle black, that also comes with dark blue accents and gold wheels.

The color options for the 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE (DL800DEM3) are Champion Yellow No.2 (YU1), Glass Matt Mechanical Grey (QT7) and Glass Sparkle Black (YVB).

Following the launch the V-Strom 800DE, Suzuki presented a new V-Strom 800RE in October 2023, expanding its adventure bike stable. The V-Strom 800RE was a more road-focussed bike than its more off-road-ready sibling. With DE denoting the V-Strom 800DE’s positioning as a dual explorer, the adoption of RE for the latest V-Strom 800 model highlights its abilities as the road explorer.

In USA, the '24 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE was available in Champion Yellow No.2 (YU1) and the new color option Pearl Tech White (QU2). In some countries, the model was also available in Metallic Mat Steel Green (QVP) livery. All three versions had gold-anodized aluminum rims.

Mechanically, the model remained unchanged.

In Europe, the '25 DL800DE was also available in Pearl Tech White (QU2) and Glass Sparkle Black (YVB), both with slithtly different graphics, compared to the previous year's model. The Pearl White option also has now blue wheels. The Black version has black rims.

Suzuki Germany offered a similar, but not exactly the same package as the American Adventure model, calling it V-Strom 800DE Travel Edition. It came in two different liveries, Pearl Tech White (QU2) and Glass Sparkle Black (YVB). Both came with a black skid plates, silver or black anodized aluminum panniers and a center stand.
