The same designer, Ichiro Miyata, who draw the original DR750 in the eighties designed also the new V-Strom 1050. The motorcycles have over three decades between them but share a similar design concept with the beak.

The Suzuki V-Strom 1050, also known as the DL1050, is a dual-sport motorcycle with a 1037 cc V-twin engine and a standard riding posture. It has been manufactured in Japan by Suzuki since 2020, as the replacement of the Suzuki V-Strom 1000. The DL1050 was unveiled in 2019 at EICMA by Suzuki and has similarities with the styling of the eighties Suzuki DR Big / DR750. The bikes were created by the same designer, Ichiro Miyata. The name V-Strom combines "V" referring to the bike's engine configuration with the German "Strom", meaning stream or power. The V-Strom motorcycle is based on the V-twin engine initially designed for the Suzuki TL1000S and TL1000R motorcycles. It incorporates design elements from other Suzuki motorcycles including fuel injection based on the GSX-R models. There's also two smaller-engined versions, the Suzuki V-Strom 250 and Suzuki V-Strom 650. The DL1050's engine is almost identical to the engine of the 2013-2019 model, except now modified to comply to EURO5 emission standards. Performance gains are thanks to new camshaft profiles and some other tweaks, with a five-kW increase to 79 kW at 8500rpm, or 106 hp. For 2020, the Suzuki DL1050 V-Strom was available in a standard, XT and XT Adventure trim. The three models differ in that the base features cast aluminum wheels instead of the spoked wheels seen on the XT and XT Adventure. The XT also features a centerstand, crash guards, brush guards, cruise control, hand-adjustable windscreen, and a slew of rider aids. The XT Adventure has the same features as the XT, but pumps the model up with heated grips and aluminum panniers and a topbox. The Adventure model was also known as "Tour" in some countries. New V-Strom 1050 color, Candy Daring Red / Glass Sparkle Black (AV4), was offered for the 2021. Also, new colors were offered for the XT version; Metallic Oort Grey / Glass Sparkle Black (BD7) – a steely grey with blue decals, grey seat and blue spoked wheels. An updated yellow option featured a black tank, blue seat and gold rims. Gold rims also feature on an otherwise all black version, bar subtle grey and gold decals. 2021 V-Strom 1050 XT colours are: Champion Yellow No.2 / Glass Sparkle Black (BT1), Metallic Oort Gray No.3 / Glass Sparkle Black (BD7), Glass Sparkle Black (YVB), Pearl Brilliant White / Glass Blaze Orange (B1F) The new-for-2021 colours on the V-Strom 1050XT also apply to the Tour edition, offered in some countries. Genuine Black Alloy Luggage, combined storage of 112 litre, was included the Tour kit.

2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 DE replaced the V-Strom 1050 XT model.

Three years after the big V-Strom makeover, the 2023 V-Strom models were presented in September 2022. The styling was not altered but the XT version was discontinued and replaced by a more off-road focused V-Strom 1050DE. Visually, the basic V-Strom 1050 is largely unchanged apart from colours, but it has number of technical updates. The first thing you may notice is the a new full-colour LCD display. It gives access to the carry-over electronics suite that already includes a six-axis IMU, lean sensitive ABS with linked brakes and load and slope-dependent control, hill-hold, cruise control and a trio of power and traction control settings. The display now adds a function to display pop-up large alerts and warnings. The tachometer also serves as a programmable engine rpm indicator. It blinks when the engine speed reaches the preset rpm entered by the rider. It can be set in 250 rpm increments within a range from 4000 rpm to 9250 rpm. New for 2023 is a bi-directional quickshifter, something that’s fast becoming the norm across an ever-wider array of models. The V-Strom 1050 also got revised transmission, with higher ratios for first and sixth gear along with a lower final drive. The result is a closer-ratio box from first to fifth, while the longer sixth offsets the lower final drive to retain the bike’s cruising ability. The result should be a sprightlier feel to the acceleration, even though the engine’s 107hp and 74lb-ft power and torque figures are unchanged. The engine has been tweaked a fraction, gaining sodium-filled exhaust valves to improve durability and control combustion chamber temperatures better. Other than that, it’s the same twin-spark, 1037cc V-twin as before. The engine electronics are unchanged, but there’s a revised feel to the ride-by-wire throttle, increasing the resistance as you twist the grip. The cruise control has been updated and now works over a wider range of speeds – keeping a constant pace anywhere from 15 mph (24 km/h) to 100 mph (161 km/h). The frame, too, is familiar, but the seat rails are mildly revised to make it more resistant to off-road use. Tthe 2023 V-Strom also get a revised Bosch ABS unit that’s lighter and more compact than before. All the upgraded mentioned above are included to the new V-Strom 1050DE.  the 1050DE Suzuki adds more dirt road ability, most notably by swapping the old bike’s wire-wheeled 19-inch front wheel for a 21-incher, increasing wheel travel and adding wider bars and footpegs. There’s also an alloy sump guard and engine bars, plus a ‘gravel’ mode for the traction control and the ability to switch off the rear brake’s ABS. The DE has taller ride height than the XT, thefore even the side stand and centre stand are new. Changes to the 1050DE include a longer swingarm than the base model, which along with the larger front wheel alters the chassis geometry – giving increased rake and a longer wheelbase for improved stability off-road. The 1050DE also gets a tougher drive chain, plus a different shift lever compared to the stock 1050. The DE's rear wheel is the same size as the old XT’s, with a 150/70R17 Dunlop semi-block pattern Trailmax Mixtour tyre — but it’s a different design, gaining more stylish edge-mounted spokes while retaining the same gold finish as before. While the DE’s 21-inch front wheel has conventional spokes and needs an inner tube, the rear is tubeless. Other visual changes for the 1050DE include a shorter, smoked screen and a new front mudguard to suit the larger wheel. The DE’s ”gravel” riding mode allows more rear wheel slip than the road-oriented settings before cutting in the traction control, while the suspension – still from KYB and with 43mm forks – has more travel, with 170mm at the front and 169mm at the back. Both bikes are a fraction heavier than their predecessors, with the base V-Strom 1050 rising from 236 kg (520 lbs) wet to 242 kg (534), and the 1050DE jumping from the old XT’s 247 kg (545 lbs) to 252 kg (556 lbs), with a full tank of fuel included. A touring version of the V-Strom 1050 was offered in some countries with panniers and some other accessories as standard In UK, the version with 3-piece aluminium luggage as standard was called V-Strom 1050 Tour. Apart from the panniers, the V-Strom 1050 Tour was similar to the satandrad version with 19-inch cast front wheel with road focused tyres, generous rider and pillion seats, large adjustable screen, dedicated handlebars and footpegs, electronic rider aids, cruise control, quickshifter and full-colour TFT display offer even greater confidence and excitement on every journey.

I April 2024, Suzuki expanded the colour palette for V-Storm 1050 and V-storm 1050 Tour with new colour-combination options. In some countries, the V-Strom was being offered in five colours and the V-Strom 1050DE in three colours. The 2024 V-Strom 1050 was offered in two new colors. The Candy Daring Red was replaced by Glass Blaze Orange and the Metallic Reflective Blue was replaced by Pearl Vigor Blue. In some countries, a Tour Edition with aluminum panniers was offered to make the bike more appealing to vider range of customers.
