Colleda 250TC

I have tried to tell the Suzuki Colleda 250 TC model history on this page as I know it.
I would be grateful of any contributions sales brochures, magazine ads,
magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material

The Colleda 250TC was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in December 1961 and was basically the same bike as its precedessor 250TB but with a chrome plated fuel tank and a deeper, painted front fender.
In Japan, the 250TC was avaiable with a single seat and a sturdy bagage holder or with a tandem seat and a much lighter bagage holder.
It was a short lived model. The export model of the Colleda 250TC was marketed in the US as Suzuki El Camino and in the land that loved chrome, it had the same the chrome plated front fender as the 250TB had.
The Colleda 250TA, 250TB and 250TC all had 4-speed rotary gear shift mechanism, with neutral at the bottom and after running through the 4 gears and then, with one more push return to neutral, ready to pop into low.
A nice asset for for a city commuter in crowded stop-go conditions but not that great for higher speeds, when loosing count of the gears and getting neutral by mistake.
Just like its predecessor, Colleda 250TC was
equipped with 17-inch wheels and had hydraulic rear brake and mechanical brake at the front, both of internal expanding type.
The air-cooled 250cc 2-stroke twin engine with twin VM20 carburetor and 20 hp power output at 8,000 rpm was unchanged. The lubrication of the engine was still being done by premixing oil and gasoline. The CCI separate lubrication system came with the T20 model.
The 250 Colleda/Suzuki 250TC was exported
to USA, where the model was called Suzuki El Camino. Cycle World magazine published a 4-page road test article of the model in October 1962.
In Japan, the 250TC was replaced with T10 in 1963, the main difference being the change from a rotary type transmission to return type, both with 4 speeds. By that time, even the 250TC had received the more popular chrome plated front mud guard.
