Colleda 125SK
1962

I have tried to tell the Suzuki Colleda 125 SK model history on this page as I know it. I would be grateful of any contributions — sales brochures, magazine ads, magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible. If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these instructions.

The Colleda 125SK, launched by Suzuki in 1962, replaced the Suzuki models Colleda Seltwin (1959) and the Colleda Seltwin SB-2 (1960–1961). It had the now familiar Suzuki ”S” badge on the fuel tank and a smaller one on the engine side covers. The SJK brand name was no longer used when advertising Suzuki bikes in the sixties.

The Colleda 125SK was a beautiful bike with lots of shiny chrome paired with glossy black painted fenders, and frame. The standard version, made for the domestic customers, had a single seat and a sturdy bagage holder behind it. The bike was advertised as a high-performance motorcycle ideal for both work and leisure activities.

The 125SK was launched together with the similary designed 125SL on the same chassi. Both models had 4-speed rotary type transmission with similar gearing and electric and a kick starters. The sportier 125SK had a air-cooled twin cylinder 125cc 2-stroke with both electric and a kick starter. An engine with two cylinders was considered as quite sporty at the time. It generated maximum horsepower of 11.5 PS giving the 125SK a top speed of 115 km/h (71.5 mph).

The frame was an underbone type and made of pressed steel. The suspension was the modern type with with oil-damping shock absorbers both front and rear that delivered reasonable comfortable cushioning performance, even on Japanese roads that could be quite rough at their places. Modified scrambler style models also performed well in clubman races throughout the country.

The Colleda 125SK was a short-lived model that was replaced by the Colleda 125 S30 (1963–1964), Colleda 125 S30-2 (1965–1966) and Colleda 125 S30-3 (1967).

It's not easy to tell the Colleda models 125SK and 125SK apart if you don't see the cylinders clearly. It's much easier if you see the left side of the bike. The Twin cylinder 125SK has an exhaust pipe on both sides of the motorcycle, the 125SL has only one pipe on the right side.
