Suzuki FE50 Mollet

in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send

The Suzuki Mollet, launched in August 1986, was a small commuter/business type scooter. It was not a floor-type scooter, but had footpegs on both sides of the bike. Still, its underbone bar-step frame made it easy to get on and off, even if you had short legs. Equipped with a front basket and a flat rear carrier with hanging hooks as standard, it had excellent load capacity, and was useful in a wide range of fields, being suitable not only for everyday use but also for business purposes. It was characterized by 12-inch tires on both the front and rear. The design was sharp and based on straight lines.
The engine was a 50cc 2-stroke, forced air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that was renowned for its durability. The transmission used a V-belt continuously variable transmission system that ensured smooth acceleration. The engine was similar to the A122 vertical engine that was mainstream in Suzuki moped scooters (Hi, Kana, etc.) at the time, sharing the same shrouds and other components, but it was specially designed with an extended crankcase to accommodate 12-inch tires, and the power extracted by the reverse rotation was transmitted via a two-stage countershaft.
In 1994, the bike underwent a full model change, changing its model code/name from FA14A to FA14B. It was fitted with a slightly more powerful A147 horizontal engine, which was also used in the Address and Sepia models, and the rear suspension was changed from twin shocks to single shock absorber, resulting in changes to the rear section of the frame and to the fuel tank. The front wheel remained 12 inches, but the rear wheel was changed to 10-inches.
At the same time, in May 1994, a Super Mollet model was launched. It was developed on requests from the Japan Newspaper Publishers & Editors Association and newspaper retailers, and is a model aimed at female newspaper delivery workers. Due to its robust structure, including its easy handling, thick frame, and telescopic front end, it began to attract attention as a business model, and manufacturers began adding equipment to match this. Soon only the business-spec Super Mollet was being sold.
The Super Mollet was produced during many years, specialized as a business model, but because of the not so environmentally friendly two-stroke engine and stricter emission regulations, it was unable to comply with the 2007 automobile exhaust gas regulations, and the manufacturer announced the end of production in 2008.

In 1995, Suzuki Mollet was offered in several slightly different specifications. Technically, the model used the same power plant and drive train, but different was in the accessories bolted on at the factory. There was a model with a large box mounted at the rear, a model with a ”business” carrier, a model with a ”folding storage” and a model with a high mounted stop lamp Box specification.
The Super Mollet Large Box Specification model (FE50LBS) was launched in August 1995. It was available in Special White/Noble Gray (D3Y) and
Special White/Purcell Blue (D3W) liveries.

I believe that the Super Mollet FE50YS with a front basket and a large rear carrierm, also launched in 1995, was only available in one color, Special White / Cheerful Green (E8M). |

This page is still under construction.
More pictures and info will be added here.
