Suzuki GZ125 Marauder
1998—2011
I try to tell the Suzuki GZ 125 Marauder model history on this
page as I know it.
I would be grateful of any contributions sales brochures, magazine ads,
magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material
in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send
them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible.
If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these

The GZ series is based primarily on the GN series, and features air-cooled single-cylinder engines with chain drive. Like the GN series these bikes were designed to be easy to ride by beginners. Instrumentation includes a speedometer, odometer with trip, high beam and turn indicator, and a gear position indicator.
The Marauder series of 125 and 250 cm³ cruisers combines the commanding exterior design of an American cruiser with comfortable dynamic performance and excellent rideability in an accessible package. With a presence that goes beyond conventional definitions of class, the Marauder series sets the distinctive low & long styling of an American cruiser on a large body, and is finished with a wide range of highly refined chrome and metallic parts. The Marauder 125 features a lightweight and simple 125 cm³ 4-stroke 1-cylinder SOHC engine that is both highly reliable and economic.

The Marauder 125 was released in March 1998 as an entry-level bike that lets you easily experience the atmosphere of a large cruiser. Its big brother model, the Marauder 250, was also released in the same year.
It looked quite large for a 125cc model because the basic components were the same as the larger displacement Marauder 250. The Marauder 125 had 16-inch wheels at the front with disc brakes and 15-inch drum brakes at the rear.
The Marauder 125 was a very charming little cruiser that looked like a bigger capacity machine but with its 12 bhp engine was a good bike to learn on and easy to maintain, it was reliable and fuel efficient. Its low seat height made it an easy bike to control, especially at low speed. Its wide bars made it comfortable for city cruising. Wide bars help more and the Suzuki Marauder 125 is pretty handy in town as a result.
The suspension’s basic and the tyres thin, but the GZ125 Marauder would still lean over in corners until the footpegs scrape – something that happens later than on most cruiser 125s thanks to good clearance.
The Marauder's body was mounted on a semi-double cradle frame and was equipped with an air-cooled, four-stroke, SHOC 2-valve, 124cc engine, F429 type. It had a maximum output of 12 horsepower at 9,000 rpm. The transmission was a five-speed return.
The Japanese-made Marauder 125 was sold in different parts of the world. In its home country it was available in three colors: Pearl Novelty Black, Candy Forest Green, and Candy Deep Grape Maroon, and was priced in Japan at 336,000 yen (excluding tax). There were no color changes or specification changes after its debut, and it was sold in Japan until the 2000 model. However, overseas, it was available as a European model under the name "GZ125" until the 2011 model, and was sold until 2013.
