I
have tried to tell the model history of the Suzuki Love 50 cc scooter
on this page as I know it. This page is still under construction.
I would be grateful of any contributions sales brochures, magazine ads,
magazine articles, pictures, specs, facts, corrections etc. Please scan the material
in JPEG format (large enough that all the details are visible) and send
them to me. Please tell me the source and the publication date if possible.
If you send me pictures of your own bike, please follow these
instructions.

1982 Suzuki year code: Z

The small 2-stroke scooter Suzuki Love, with model code CL50,
was presented for the Japanese home market in February 1982 into the exploding scooter market following the Gemma. The following
year it was introduced to Europe. The CL50 was aimed specifically
at the female market. It was light, smaller than usual, had fully automatich transmission and maintenance-free Pointless Electric Ignition (PEI). In Japan, pop star Michael Jackson appeared in advertisimnets of the model.
In Japan, 4 different model versions were available; CL50 (standard model), CL50D ”Deluxe”, CL50DG ”Super Deluxe” and CL50HM”Hanae Mori Special model. They sharde the same mechanics, a 49cc 2-stroke air-cooled engine with 3.5 PS power output and 10-inch wheels with drum brakes. It had a kick starter and an electric starter.
The instrument panel was simple with speedometer and odometer without any additional indicators. Under the seat, instead of a trunk, there was a gas tank with a mechanical fuel level sensor, an oil tank and a battery. There were no niches for storage, not even for small items. Luggage could only be placed on the rear carrier or on the optional front carrier.
The model was produced until 1984, when it was replaced by the more powerful Love Three.

1983 Suzuki year code:
Suzuki CL50 ”Love” was introduced to the UK in March 1983, but listed as ”Suzy MkII” and came in two formats; as kickstart only (D-model) with 6V electrics, and 12V electric start (DD-model), also with kickstart.
The Suzuki FZ50N model from 1978 seemed to have been called ‘Suzy’ in the UK, and after the CL50D & DD were introduced in March 1983, the FZ50N became formally re-designated as FZ50X ‘Suzy’ in August 1983, and continued as FZ50Z ’Suzy’ from 1984 until de-listed in March 1986. Presumably that’s why the CL50 was called ‘Suzy MkII’.
In some countries (like Finland) the Love scooter was sold with a restricted engine, because of regulations of maximum
power output. See even the Suzuki
Love magazine article page. |

1984 Suzuki year code: E

The CS50 was replaced by Love Three in August 1984, with a model code
CX50D.
The Love Three was a model-changed version of the Love, which had been well-received as a light scooter. According to Suzuki, the name “Three” refers to the model’s main selling points of agility, speed, and beautiful styling.
The Love Three was designed with rideability in mind for both male and female riders. It came with features such as an electric starter, Suzuki’s start system, in which the engine cannot be started without pulling the left brake lever, and maintenance-free components throughout the bike.
The Suzuki Love Three had a low curb mass (dry weight: 48 kg) and a 50 cm³ air-cooled 2-stroke engine that generated maximum horsepower of 6 PS and was tuned to emphasize performance in the low- and mid-rpm ranges. According to Suzuki’s internal test result it had excellent fuel economy of 91.1 km/liter, riding steadily at 30 km per hour.
Type code: CA15A
Initial serial number: CA15A-100001
Recommended spark plug: NGK BPR6HS
In Japan, Suzuki Love Three
was available in 4 colors: Blue, Black, Red and White.
