I have tried to tell the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 model history on this page as I know it. Suzuki improved its GSX-R1000 for 2020 in a bid to "reclaim the King of Sportbikes crown". This rebuild comes close on the heels of the last revamp that landed just a couple short years ago, but it adds some significant features, most of which can be found "under the hood" or in the electronics suite. A couple of tweaks to the frame tune handling characteristics while the cornering ABS feature and variable valve-timing engine carries over from the previous generation. All in all, Suzuki turns in a very streetworthy racebike that's nothing short of a technological showcase on two wheels. The windtunnel-tested attributes of the GSX-R1000 are apparent at a glance. In front, the fender uprights multitask as supports for the close-fit fender, but they also protect the swept areas of the fork tubes. The uprights act as shunts to guide the incoming air away from the tube and into the slipstream as it passes over the engine cowlings in a bid to lower drag and improve penetration. A compact LED headlight rides recessed between two ram-air induction ports in the tip of the nose, a detail that delivers a roughly 2.5-percent increase in power once you get it up to speed. Up top, a smoked bubblescreen forms the rider’s pocket with standoff mirrors mounted on the mullions, and I have to gig the factory for missing an opportunity to integrate the blinkers with the mirrors; a fairly major oversight on a bike that could potentially see a track at some point in its life. For 2020, the GSX-R1000 gains an up/down quickshifter as standard, as well as grippier Bridgestone Battlax Racing Street RS11 tyres. Overall, the outside of the Gixxer looks pretty much like last year with the exception of the addition of a two-tone paint scheme, but the real magic is hidden beneath the skin. The bike carries over its 149kW/118Nm 999cc four-cylinder engine, and key performance features like 10-step traction control and radial-mounted Brembo calipers grabbing 320mm discs. The 2021 GSX-R1000 is available in a new Metallic Matte Black No. 2 color scheme with black graphics and wheels. GSX-R1000R: New for 2021 are two metallic black paint schemes; one with subtle black graphics and a second with bright white, silver, and orange graphics. 100th Anniversary Edition As Suzuki marks its 100th anniversary as a company in 2020, the 2021 GSX-R1000 100th Anniversary Edition arrived to celebrate the brand’s achievements on the racetrack. Its colour scheme was inspired by Suzuki Ecstar’s MotoGP machine, with Triton Blue and Mystic Silver panels similar to Alex Rins’ racebike. GSX-R1000R Legend Edition After clinching its seventh rider's title in the premier class motorcycle World Championship, Suzuki launched a limited Legend Edition, charting every World Champion's paintjob. The 2022 GSX-R1000RZ got a Black belly pan whille the 2021 Anniversary model had a Blue belly pan.

The European motorcycle market required new type-approved bikes to meet Euro5 standard by January, 2020, while manufacturers had an extra year to homologate existing models to the latest standard. Yet, the GSX-R1000 remained on European showroom floors longer than that. That’s because the firm filed for an “End of Series” extension which allowed dealers to continue selling non-compliant GSX-R1000 units for two additional years approaching the end of their run. To the best of my knowledge: As of 2023’s lineup, motorcycle communities hailing from Europe and the UK will no longer be able to purchase a new Suzuki GSX-R1000. The brand’s decision to cut the iconic hooner follows the cut of Suzuki’s GSX-R600 and GSX-R750 due to emissions regulations, leaving behind the R125 and Hayabusa on EU and UK markets. In America, the Gixxer line is still available with new graphics (no other changes). But the emission restrictions are slowly trickling across the Atlantic and may eventually even affect Suzuki’s America-bound bikes. 2024 Suzuki year code: M4

The 2024 GSX-R1000 models were revealed in the USA in August 2023. For the past few years, Suzuki has only introduced new colors for the GSX-R1000 in the name of ‘updates’ and 2024 is no different. You get three new liveries; Glass Matte Mechanical Gray, Glass Sparkle Black, and Pearl Brilliant White. The first one wraps the motorcycle in a triple-tone finish, comprising a matte gray base coat, black/red graphics, and red wheels. The second one is comparatively simpler, courtesy of an all-black base coat with cyan-ish graphics. The last time we saw a major update to the GSX-R1000 was in 2017, when a complete overhaul included a upgraded 999cc engine rated at 199 hp, traction control with an IMU, advanced suspension, LED lighting, etc. Advanced electronics include a now-standard bi-directional quickshifter that was previously only available on the R1000R model, an Inertial Measurement Unit, three power modes, 10-mode traction control, and Motion Track ABS, which Suzuki says provides the appropriate braking force for the available traction and also helps to control rear-wheel lift. The main specifications of the GSX-R1000R are almost the same as of the GSX-R1000. Most of the same advanced electronic rider aids appear here, with adjustable traction control, an IMU, Motion Track ABS, and a bi-directional quickshifter all coming standard. But the R1000R adds launch control to the mix as well as Showa’s more advanced Balance Free Front Fork (BFF) and Balance Free Rear Cushion Light (BFRC-Lite) suspension components, with the fork and shock absorber body receiving a gold anodized finish. At the front there are radially mounted Brembo Monoblock brake calipers grasping a pair of 320 mm Brembo T-drive floating brake rotors, with stainless steel brake lines to add even more stopping power. The GSX-R1000R also has a model-specific, black background LCD multifunction instrument panel inspired by the GSX-RR MotoGP dash. The R model also receives a unique GSX-R1000R logo on the tail. The Pearl Brilliant White / Metallic Triton Blue color option is exclusive to the GSX-R1000RZ, and flaunts a quadruple-tone finish (three tones of blue plus white). This is elevated by blue USD forks and wheels. 2025 Suzuki year code: M5

The 2025 Suzuki GSX-R1000 models were revealed in the USA in June 2024. Again, the new models were technically identical to the previous year's model but with new color options. The M5 GSX-R1000 bodywork is coated in a new Candy Daring Red and Glass Sparkle Black with dark red wheels, or a Mechanical Matte Sword Silver with new, bright blue graphics on the fairing and on the black wheels. The GSX-R1000RZ’s Pearl Brilliant White/ Metallic Matte Triton Blue paint scheme includes fork outer tubes and a shock absorber body with blue-anodized finishes. In other words, it looks like the 2024-year's GSX-R1000RZ, but this time it has black wheels. The previous model had blue wheels. 2025 Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R colors: Metallic Matte Sword Silver (QKA), Candy Darling Red / Glass Sparkle Black (AV4). There was also a GSX-R1000RZ model with Pearl Brilliant White / Metallic Triton Blue (BQJ) livery.
